OBIE O’BRIEN

Born in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, OBIE has resided in NY State for the past 55 years where he taught college math until his retirement in 1992.
OBIE joined the IBM in Dec. 1962 and served on the IBM Convention Committee for 15 years.
He is presently the IBM representative for FISM and a Committee Member for IBM/SAM 2008 & 2014 Conventions. He was President of the IBM in 1993-1994.
He has performed or judged at many conventions in the United States the UK, Germany, Italy and France. He also performs about 25 private shows each year in his home area.
He has attended the past 12 FISM Conventions and was a member of the FISM Jury in The Hague 2003, Head Judge for FISM Close Up in Stockholm Sweden 2006 and Close up coordinator for FISM Beijing 2009.
OBIE started 4F (Fechter’s Finger Flicking Frolic) in 1971 that now attracts magicians from around the world.  He was on the Board of Directors of CEMK (Close Encounters of the Magic Kind) for 20 years, and the Desert Magic Seminar for 28 years.  In 2011, he is honored by the Gold Medal of Cultural Influence from “La Renaissance Française”

In his youth, OBIE was a top college hockey player and was the official scorer for the 1980 Olympic Russian-USA hockey game.
He refereed hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer and basketball for 35 years, and coached the winning Jr. College championship team for 2 years.
Nowadays, when he isn’t working on magic, he is playing golf.
